PETRA Overview for Engineers - View course outline
This two-day class is an introduction to PETRA from an engineering perspective. It is designed as an overview for engineers and engineering technicians.  The course includes hands-on exercises in data management, iso-data mapping, decline curve analysis and production calculations. It is similar in design to our “PETRA Overview for Geoscientists” and is intended for those who are just beginning to use PETRA or who have used PETRA for a while, but not had any formal training on PETRA in the past.

PETRA Applied Engineering - NEW
View course outline
This is a pragmatic, advanced course for experienced PETRA users.  The course is designed to give the students a practical, hands-on experience using the tools and capabilities of PETRA to complete an exploitation/development project. Students will complete a series of workflows to solve a real-world problem:  identifying and evaluating infill drilling locations in a mature oilfield.

Workflows include: selecting wells using specific data criteria, decline curve analysis and EUR determination, calculating drainage areas and creating elliptical drainage maps, using structure and isopach maps, volumetric analysis, identifying and adding new well locations, normalizing and analyzing analogous group production data, predicting well performance and creating cross-sections through the proposed locations.

NOTE: This is not a “how to”, lecture-based course.  This is an advanced course; students should have a good working knowledge and experience using PETRA, and come prepared to complete the class exercises.

PETRA Advanced Mapping

This is a one-day course that provides a hands-on PETRA workshop that emphasizes mapping tools such as surface styles used for gridding, grid to grid operations, grid curvature, and analytical techniques that are not covered in detail in the Introduction To PETRA Course.

Prerequisite: PETRA Overview or a working knowledge of PETRA is required.

PETRA Advanced Cross Section
This one-day class is for geologists who have completed the PETRA Overview for Geologists and who have PETRA experience. The overview class teaches participants the basic Cross Section Module skills that form the foundation for this advanced level course. This Advanced Cross Section Class will bypass most of the information covered in the overview class, so we can focus on the more advanced cross section techniques.

Prerequisite: PETRA Overview or a working knowledge of PETRA is required

PetraSeis Overview
The two-day PetraSeis overview class is designed to teach the fundamentals of importing seismic data, picking horizons and faults, seismic data management and interpreting seismic data. The students work with a project that includes a multi-volume 3D dataset and several 2D seismic lines (including a 2D raster line). A synthetic seismogram is created and conversions (such as a 3D time horizon to depth) and sampling (such as a computed interval calculation to a PETRA zone item) are discussed.

Prerequisite: a working knowledge of PETRA is required, since PetraSeis is a plug-in to PETRA and takes advantage of the PETRA database.

PETRA Getting Started (Canada)

This course will give you a quick introduction to PETRA’s functionality. It covers project creation, data import, and the basics of calculations, mapping, and cross sections.  The Getting Started course is an ideal course for technologists and geologists who will be loading data into PETRA or new users who wish to have a look at PETRA startup workflows without having to take the 2-day PETRA Overview Class.

Prerequisite: None

Onsite Training
We also deliver onsite training for companies with a need to have a large number of people trained. These classes are typically overview classes, similar to the scheduled classes, but can be customized to focus on specific topics. Please contact us online if you have interest in scheduling an onsite class.
