Exploration and Production in Jamaica

There is no hydrocarbon production in Jamaica nor has there been a commercial hydrocarbon discovery. A total of 11 wells have been drilled, nine onshore and two offshore with five of the wells encountering either oil, gas or both all onshore.

The Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) is procuring equipment for the country’s US$100 million floating LNG terminal and plant to be located off Jamaica’s south coast. Jamaica and Trinidad & Tobago have signed an agreement whereby the latter will supply Jamaica with 158 MMcfg/d to supply the LNG facility.

PDVSA has signed a joint venture agreement with Petrojam whereby they will acquire 49% of the latter. Through this joint venture, called PetroCaribe Jamaica, the Kingston refinery expansion project will be carried which will see the refinery capacity increase

to 50,000 bo/d from the current 35,000 bo/d by the end of 2009 at a cost of US$ 160 million.
