 UK - 24th - License Round Promotion
|
Exploration and Production in the United Kingdom Continental Shelf (UKCS) Region
In recent years, Acquisition and Divestment activity has redefined the North Sea and UKCS. Government initiatives and flexible, innovative licensing have successfully attracted new entrants including small independents and niche players who are reinvigorating the region with a variety of new E&P strategies. more |

A brief geological look at the region
The main good quality reservoirs are the Triassic Sherwood sandstones overlain by Mercia Mudstone group evaporites and shales forming a good seal. Carboniferous (organic rich mudstones and coals, e.g. algally derived high TOC Visean shales) and Jurassic sediments are potential hydrocarbon source rocks and an active petroleum system is confirmed not only by the fields in Morecambe and Liverpool Bay but also by seeps onshore in North Wales and Lancashire. more |
The 24th Seaward Licensing Round
On 16 March 2006, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry opened the 24th Seaward Licensing Round. Under this round, 1,411 blocks in total in the UK offshore sector are on offer, an increase on the 1,329 offered in the 23rd Round when for the first time since 1998 the whole of the North Sea was open for oil and gas exploration.

Subsurface Data Solutions for the United Kingdom Continental Shelf.
IHS can help you access detailed data and comprehensive studies and maps of the region. IHS is the official data release agent for the UK Government, producing basic and value added products for the hydrocarbon exploration and production industry. Our accurate, detailed data products for the region include:
- Subsurface data including scanned images, a formation pressure database, a well attributes database and over 4000 digital merged wireline data sets.
- Fields (both developed and undeveloped): including remaining reserves, production data, geology, hydrocarbon composition, field location, contracts ownership information, field outlines and illustrations.
- Reservoirs: covering depths and potential reserves.
- Well data: reporting on current and historic wells; drilling history, technical and content status, depths, elevations, tests, casings, cores, bottom-hole formation, age and well locations.
The subsurface group has a proven capability to take raw well data, and process it into meaningful workstation-ready formats by applying interpretation where needed. As one of the most comprehensive, accessible, and up-to-date sources of subsurface data, IHS offers you major benefits in terms of ready to use and accurate data; reduced time searching for or manipulating information; standardised, formatted and, in some cases, reinterpreted data to assist your evaluations.
