IHS's international E&P database is the most comprehensive and reliable dataset available to oil and gas industry professionals today. Our database management system, IRIS21, provides a working, relational model for managing, accessing and maintaining our international E&P data. As a fully integrated system, installed on your server, the IRIS21 application accesses a database model capable of storing over 13,000 E&P data attributes. You can also store and access your proprietary data within the same model.

With 17 technical teams positioned around the world and proficiencies in 35 languages, our staff of experts maintains an unparalleled communication network with operators, national oil companies, government agencies and service companies to ensure we deliver you the latest petroleum industry activity worldwide. The data is gathered and reported daily from more than 100 in-country correspondents who are focused on tracking, reporting and analyzing industry activity to provide critical insights for E&P decision-makers. Data quality is ensured and quality checked at multiple levels.

The E&P database can be accessed directly from your desktop or
server, your intranet or the Internet via IRIS21 or the Application Data Model (ADM). The ADM is a simplification of the IRIS21 data model, used to transfer, and serve IRIS21 data into other applications. It is fast and easy to use, the perfect vehicle for data analysis. The ADM allows you to view IHS's data and proprietary data in the EDIN and EDIN-GIS software applications.

Using the international E&P database will allow your organization to thoroughly review the hydrocarbon prospects and feasibility of a project.

Typical users and applications are:

  • Explorationists - Review previous exploration activity to determine true hydrocarbon prospectivity in the basin, and assess the risk of the exploration play.
  • New Ventures and Corporate Planning Groups - Analysis of opportunities to explore for new accumulations or possible farm-in opportunities.
  • Negotiators - Evaluate work commitments to determine if a competing company was able to negotiate terms that differ from the model contract.

"Working in a new ventures team with a worldwide scope on identifying and monitoring potential opportunities, IHS information and products are a vital part of my daily workflow. The key tools for me are EDIN-GIS for map-based access to IHS E&P data, GEPS for activity information, Daily Alert for breaking news, and PEPS for petroleum economics and policy information. We are particularly pleased that data quality indicators are available for many critical parameters. Tasks that previously took days to complete can now be done in a few hours, which saves us significant time and costs. With the wide range of information and tools from IHS, we are able to generate quick and high-quality evaluations that impact the quality of our decisions in new ventures areas."
