Gas Transaction Points Common Coding Service
IHS has an agreement with the North Ameriican Energy Standards Board (NAESB) to process data files from FERC-regulated natural gas pipelines and assign a unique identiifier (“Common Code”) to all business transaction points, (meters).
The Common Code is referred to as the DRN, or Data Reference Number, and is commonly used in electronic data interchange, or EDI transactions.
The DRN is a one-to-nine-digit number assigned by IHS. Because FERC has also authorized IHS to maintain a common location code based on the American Petroleum Institute well code model, the DRN for gas transact ion points has a one-to-one relationship with the grid code, ensuring a consistent reference mechanism as gas moves from wellhead to burner tip.
