IHS Interpreted Formation Tops Data Files

These are not operator tops; our Interpreted Formation Tops are based on correlated data for nearly 775,000 U.S. wells. Each well has been carefully selected and interpreted by experienced geologists using a consistent and rigorous methodology. With this accurate tops data, geoscientists can better understand the stratigraphic and structural geology of their area of interest. Quickly turn the data into an in-depth understanding of the regional structure and stratigraphy.

The data files are available in standard E&P formats for easy use in PETRA® and other geological modeling applications as well as ASCII format.

Hundreds of “man years” have been invested to date on the geological correlations and in well-by-well examination
Gross geologic structures can be easily mapped by providing a consistent stratigraphic framework for an entire basin
These files are constructed and verified using loop-tied cross sections
Each file consists of location and identification information followed by a series of subsurface formation tops
Data is updated daily, weekly or monthly depending on the area and industry activity
