Drilling Wire on the Web!

Using Drilling Wire, you have access to nationwide coverage of
new well activity, including permits, drilling activity through completion and final status and narrative/news highlights. Area activity maps accompany some editorial.

Drilling Wire is the current version of the original “yellow top”
reports, introduced in 1928. Over 150 reports are generated daily, weekly or monthly. Reports are available for nine U.S. regions,
with sub-regional breakdowns based on volume of activity.

Reports track wells from permit through completion and final
status and are comprised of two portions:

1) Newsletter:

  • News, special reports, feature stories and background information on significant oil and gas activity
  • Pertinent regional statistics by well class, footage, completions, well totals, and rig employment with comparisons to past periods

2) Active well data. Included as separate sections are:

  • First Reports Summary-a compilation of new locations for the week
  • Completion Summary-a listing of completed wells with pertinent drilling and testing data
  • Drilling Progress-updated current information on active wells from spud through completion

View a partial sample from one of our extensive regional reports.

We also offer these Drilling Wire reports in an electronic version; Drilling Wire on the Web™. Launched in 2002, more than 7,000 users, former “Yellow Top” readers, have made the move to electronic delivery which offers numerous additional benefits.

  • You have instant access to daily updates from anywhere
  • You have search capabilities not possible with the hard copy – searches include completion dates, operators, depths, locations and more.
  • You create a Personal Report Generator – that will create regular, unique reports by region – you decide the frequency and depth of detail
  • You can get nation-wide coverage-all in one place in one format

Read why one Yellow Top user is happy he switched to Drilling Wire on the Web after using hard copies for many years:

“I started using IHS's Drilling Wire on the Web service after 16 years of daily use of the PI/D PLUS ‘Yellow Top' hard copy reports. In less than a month I was ready to give up receiving those reams of reports! I find that managing content using the electronic version takes less time because I can gather specific section of the reports quickly. And, we have the added benefit of being able to archive electronically versus having piles of reports around,” said Don Lyle, Editor, Hart's E&P Magazine.
