Basin Ranking and Comparative Studies
Creating a high-value, ranked portfolio of basins and play concepts. Use Basin Data in tandem with standard and specialized IHS analytical and GIS tools.
Used together with IHS Exploration & Production data, GIS analytical tools and standard software applications, the Basins Database can help you develop a globally ranked list of basins to explore, based on key metrics that match your exploration strategies.
Your new ventures team, can filter just the play areas and play types of interest, such as onshore, offshore or deep offshore. From here, you can interrogate the database to establish metrics such as 2D and 3D seismic density, exploration well drilling density, area under contract, or yet-to-find volumes calculated from field size distributions. You can establish other measures as well, for basin maturity, petroleum system risk and exploration cost. The result is a tiered list of basins with the right portfolio of risk/reward opportunities aligned with your company strategies.

Ranking any of the play attributes can be easily obtained with integrated databases. The Basins Database helps levethe playing field for New Ventures teams who do not have access to basin specialists. Larger operators can use it to leverage the expertise of their own basin specialists. For operators expanding outside their core areas for the first time, IHS consultants can help you with a regional or global basin ranking project. |
The basin ranking allows you to examine the exploration history in more detail by offering comparisons between basins (Latin America map) and offers a way to see E&P figures for areas with a similar geological profile (Africa map).
