IEEE to Update Switchgear Unit Substations Guide

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) will revise IEEE PC37.121 - Guide for Switchgear - Unit Substation - Requirements.
The standard, which was transferred from the National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA) to IEEE in January 2003, will define IEEE PC37.121 as a guide rather than as a standard.
The guide will cover three-phase unit substations for step-down operation in the range of 112.5 kilovolt (kV)-ampere or greater at primary voltages of 601 volts (V) through 38 kV.
IEEE also approved IEEE C37.06 - Standard for AC High-Voltage Circuit Breakers Rated on a Symmetrical Current Basis - Preferred Ratings and Related Required Capabilities for Voltages Above 1000 Volts.
The standard describes the preferred ratings of indoor and outdoor high-voltage circuit breakers rated above 1000 V for use in commercial, industrial and utility installations.
Both standards are sponsored by the Switchgear Committee of the IEEE Power & Energy Society.
