This article is extracted from International Oil Letter, Vol 25 issue 22, published 1 June 2009.
A Mediterranean well drilled by Repsol in 736m of water off Tarragona has tested commercial quantities of oil. The "Pride North America" S/S spudded the Montanazo D5 development well in the Montanazo D development concession in March 2009. The Ebro Delta Sub-basin well reached a total depth of 2,754m, while a sidetrack was drilled to a total depth of 2,354m. The rig will now be moved to another development well, Lubina 1, in the Lubina-2 exploration permit. This well is expected to take one month to reach a total depth of 2,400m. The objective is the Mesozoic limestone.
