Dana Gas has revealed that its Tulip 1 (Ja 71-1) exploration well in the West Qantara exploration block has tested 11.4 MMcf/d of gas and 318 bc/d from an 11m net pay sandstone reservoir in the Messinian Abu Madi Formation. The well was drilled to a total depth of 2,200m in the Abu Madi Formation and is believed to have tapped a structure with reserves of up to 30 Bcf. The company secured its interest in the license in January 2007 when it completed a US$ 950 million acquisition of Canada's Centurion Energy International. Former operator Centurion ranked the acreage as relatively under-explored but with recent seismic and geological studies indicating significant potential with the largest and lowest risk prospects lying on trend to the south and east of the El Wastani field. A total of 12 prospects have been mapped to date and additional leads are being studied.
