Sterling scores at first well in northern North Sea – United Kingdom
This article is extracted from International Oil Letter, Vol 24 issue 46, published 24 November 2008.
A 34m oil column has been encountered in the Upper Jurassic at a wildcat operated by Sterling Resources on the Cladham prospect. The 201/29a-4 well was drilled by the Transocean "Sedco 704" S/S in 163m of water to a total depth of 2,967m. About 8m of high-quality net sands had maximum porosities in excess of 20% and high saturations of light oil, with no indication of an oil-water contact. Cladham, also known as Bowstring East, is to be re-entered, sidetracked and tested at a future date.
Sterling says the well has confirmed the presence of a stratigraphic trap and results will be integrated with 3D seismic that has confirmed the Upper Jurassic high extends into adjacent block 210/30. Sterling has a 39.9% interest in 201/29. Partners are Revus (33.5%), EnCore (16.6%) and Dyas (10%).
