Sinopec well demonstrates potential of Yuanba area - China

Sinopec has penetrated a reservoir at a Sichuan Basin outpost that is said to be much better than that in the Yuanba 2 discovery. Yuanba 102 was drilled in the north-eastern portion of the basin, encountering 34.6m of pay in 15 layers in the Xujiahe Formation and 125.9m of pay in 27 layers in the Feixianguan- Changxing Formation. These results, particularly in the Lower Changxing Formation, demonstrate the good reservoir presence in the 3,000 sq km Yuanba area.
With prospective gas resources of more than 35 Tcf, the main target in Yuanba is the Fexianguan-Changxing carbonate reservoir, similar to the reservoir in the Puguang field. The deeper Qixia Formation of the Permian and Silurian is considered a potential secondary reservoir. In the past two years, a number of wells have been drilled in this area, including as Yuanba 1, Yuanba 2, Yuanba 3 and Yuanba 22. The Yuanba 1-C1 flowed 17.3 MMcf/d from 7,330.7-7,367.6m, while Yuanba 2 tested 1.76 MMcf/d from 6,677-6,700m. Both were tested in the Feixianguan-Changxing.
