Petrobras makes oil discovery in Camamu-Almada Basin - Brazil
This article is extracted from International Oil Letter, Vol 24 issue 52, published 22 December 2008.
An offshore wildcat drilled by Petrobras in the Camamu-Almada Basin has been completed as an oil discovery. Spudded in 495m of water by the Diamond Offshore "Ocean Winner" S/S in July 2008, 1-BAS-140D (1-BRSA-637D-BAS) or Copaiba prospect encountered a 32° API oil-bearing sandstone reservoir with 21% porosity confirmed. An interval at 2,755-2,773m was tested, but no flow rates are available. The oil/water contact was not intersected.

The total depth of 3,396m or 3,283m, true vertical depth, was reached in September and it is believed fishing operations have delayed the test program. The wildcat is located in the northern part of the block, 2.2km east south-east of wildcat 1-BAS-077, which was plugged and abandoned with oil shows by Petrobras in 1985, and 39km south-east of Camamu. The drilling of a second prospect in the same tract, Jequitibá, may follow.
