Perth-based explorer Oilex says it has had some very encouraging indications from its Al Jumd 1 wildcat in the northern sector of the 5,809 sq km onshore Block 56 (Mudawrat) concession in the Eastern Flank Sub-basin (Oman Basin). Preliminary data indicates that 108m of gross oil pay had potentially been encountered in two Al Khlata Formation clastic reservoirs.

Drilling Wire on the Web
This shows that one sandstone body had been encountered over a gross 60m interval from 1,163m to 1,233m with an estimated 20-25% porosity, while a second clastic zone was drilled in a deeper Al Khlata sandstone body over a gross 48m interval from 1280m-1328m. The well is currently drilling ahead to the planned total depth of 1,500m to evaluate the basal Haima and Huqf formation objectives. It will then be suspended for later production testing using a lower-cost rig.
