Concluding a fifth successful test of the Victoria Nile delta play fairway within the Albertine Graben Heritage Oil’s Buffalo 1 exploration well has encountered a gross hydrocarbon-bearing interval of approximately 123m (75m oil and 48m gas).  Wireline logs and other data indicate 43m of net pay; 28m of net oil pay in the main reservoir section overlain by 15m of net gas pay.  Reservoir quality in all pay zones appears to be excellent and oil is moveable.  No oil-water contact has been encountered.

The company believes that this find could be the largest in Uganda.  The well was drilled to a total depth of 637m and suspended as a potential future production well on 13 December 2008. The rig will now move 5km south to drill Giraffe 1.  Block 1 covers 3,659 sq km and interests in the license are shared between Heritage Oil (operator 50%) and Tullow (50%).  The Buffalo prospect was independently assessed to have mean gross unrisked prospective resources of 420 MMbo and Heritage believes it has the potential to be the largest oil field in Uganda to date.
