The transformation of Uganda from oil importer to potential oil exporter continues with news of another oil find by Heritage Oil in Block 1. Warthog 1, the first of a three-well program in the permit, was drilled to a total depth of 911m. The well encountered a gross hydrocarbon-bearing interval of approximately 150m, with net hydrocarbon pay of 46m. Wireline logging and formation pressure measurements indicate 31m of net oil pay in the principal oil-bearing reservoir section, overlain by 15m of additional net hydrocarbon pay comprising, most probably, volatile oil, condensate and wet gas.

In addition, Heritage believes there is further potential upside for liquid hydrocarbons in the overlying reservoir section and that the results indicate further upside potential from the adjacent Warthog North prospect. A strong possibility remains that Warthog 1 may be located on the same structure as Kasamene 1, which was drilled by Tullow Oil in adjacent Block 2. The well is being suspended as a potential future producer and the next drilling targets in the 3,659 sq km Block 1 will be the Buffalo and Giraffe prospects. These have been independently assessed to have mean gross unrisked prospective resources of 420 and 89 MMbo, respectively.
