StatoilHydro ASA finds 100-125 MMboe in North Sea - Norway

A well StatoilHydro calls the "highlight" of its 2008 exploration program has encountered a 100m oil column in the Hugin formation. The 15/5-7 appraisal confirmed the presence of oil in Mid-Jurassic reservoir rocks below the Dagny gas discovery. Drilled by the Transocean "Winner" S/S in 119m of water, it is estimated to have 100-125 MMboe in recoverable reserves. StatoilHydro says the well illustrates the prospectivity of the Sleipner area, which is considered prospective for further oil discoveries. The 15/5-7 well is located in the south-west area of the field which had not been drilled before (the existing wells lie 3km to the north and the east). Dagny was discovered in 1974 by 15/6-2 R and the north-westerly extension was proven by 15/5-1 (1978). Gas and condensate was encountered in the Middle Jurassic Hugin Formation. The NPD puts reserves at 183 Bcf gas and 11 MMb condensate (December 2007). Block 15/5 is covered by PL 048 where interest is operated by StatoilHydro ASA with a 78.2% stake; Total holds the remaining 21.8%.
