RWE Dea has second discovery on Block NC195 - Libya

RWE-Dea has made a second oil discovery on its Block NC195, Dahra Platform, Sirte Basin.  The B1-NC195 wildcat was drilled to a total depth of 1,965m seeking the Maastrichtian Waha Formation as a primary objective.  Two drillstem tests were conducted, the first in the Beda Formation in the interval 1,689-1,697 yielded 204 b/d of a 63.2° API crude and 15.4 MMcf/d of gas through a 52/64" choke.  The second, in the interval 1,589-1,599 in the Dahra Formation, flowed 840 b/d of 57.6° API crude through a 32/64" choke.  Block NC195 was one of six tracts in various basins awarded to the company in May 2003 for a work obligation that included the acquisition of 5,000km of 2D seismic data, the drilling of 10 exploratory wells and the reprocessing of vintage 2D seismic for an investment of US$ 56 million.  The EPSA also includes a special stipulation for the exploitation of gas and another to remediate the oil field sites after the completion of the oil operations in order to protect the environment.  The company’s first well, A1-NC195, was abandoned at the end of August 2007 as an oil discovery after drillstem tests in the Paleocene Dahra and Beda formations yielded 950 bo/d and 1,130 bo/d, respectively.
