Two further discoveries have been confirmed by Melrose in its Southeast El Mansoura exploration block, onshore Nile Delta. Drilled to a total depth of 3,278m, Abu Khadra East 1 encountered 12m of net pay in the Abu Madi formation: reserves in the discovery are estimated at 17 Bcf. Following testing, for which details are awaited, the well was completed as a Qawasim gas & condensate discovery. It is believed the well is to be tied back to Melrose's existing facilities at the South Bilqas field, located approximately 7km away. The second discovery on this license, Damas 1, was flow tested at a rate of 14.3 MMcf/d of gas with 105 bc/d. The well encountered the top reservoir at 1,559m and found three hydrocarbon-bearing intervals with a combined gross gas column of approximately 38m. Logs indicate a net pay interval of 19m with an average porosity and water saturation of 25% and 28%, respectively. The well had a planned total depth of 2,146m and an objective in the Miocene Sidi Salem sands. Reserves are in the range of 8 to 10 Bcfe. Elsewhere in the permit, Melrose is drilling the Ar Rub 1 wildcat to a target depth of 3,759m, testing a prospect that has unrisked reserves potential of 90 Bcfe. At least one further wildcat, Sinbelawyn 1 to test Alam El Bueib sands, remains to be drilled.
