InterOil encouraged by Elk 4 findings – Papua New Guinea

Canadian explorer InterOil says that its Elk 4 appraisal of the Antelope structure is a gas and gas liquids discovery.  The well has successfully penetrated the Antelope structure, establishing pay at 2,256m, a result the company believes will significantly augment the gas found at the Elk 1 discovery.  Drilling operations experienced a gas kick and a flow of gas and gas liquids to surface which was circulated and flared.  The well is now being prepared to drill deeper under pressure followed by comprehensive evaluation.  InterOil Corp spudded the Elk 4 appraisal well, located in exploration licence PPL 238, in the Eastern Papuan Fold Belt, in November 2007.  The Top Marl was expected at a depth of 1,270m.  However, the Orubadi Formation was found to be 600m thicker than prognosed.  It is located 1.5 km south of Elk 1 and is being drilled to test the Puri and Mendi limestone formations.
