Sintezneftegaz plans first quarter 2008 start for first well - Namibia
The Sintezneftegaz joint venture operating Block 1711 offshore Namibe Basin remains on schedule for a first quarter 2008 start of a two-well campaign. The Kunene 1 wildcat located in a water depth of approximately 900m in the north-west of the license will commence the campaign. This well has a planned total depth of 4,400 targeting the Aptian/Albian carbonates as a primary objective. The Kunene prospect has been identified by a 3D seismic survey acquired by former operator Vanco Energy in 2000. The structure forms a four-way dip closure covering 95 sq km with a vertical closure of about 650m. The Premium Drilling "Deep Venture" D/S has been contracted for both wells. Frontier Block 1711 covers an area of 8,931 sq km of which 6,573 sq km offshore and 2,358 sq km onshore, just south of the Angolan border. The block Joint Operating Committee (JOC) includes Sintezneftegaz 70% (operator), EnerGulf 10% and PetroSA 10%. The national petroleum company Namcor 7% and a BEE 3% have carried interests in the permit.
