PetroCeltic tests more gas from the Illizi Basin - Algeria
Petroceltic’s belief that its Isarene Exploration Permit, Blocks 228/229, Illizi Basin contains a number of exciting opportunities has been upheld by the results of recent drilling. In what the company describes as the "Fertile Crescent" in the north and north-west part of the license area are five successful exploration wells (four gas and one oil) including the ISAS 1 that completed in September 2006. The well tested gas from three intervals in the Ordovician, Devonian and Carboniferous. In addition, petrophysical logs indicated the presence of a gross gas column in excess of 230m in the Ordovician Unit IV and Unit III tight sandstones. Open-hole testing was completed on 21 September and the company has now revealed the following test results: the Devonian F2 in the interval 851-856m and 861-865m flowed 0.36 MMcfg/d on a 40/64-inch choke with data indicating formation damage that severely reduced the flow rate during this test; and the Carboniferous Visean B in the interval 558-564m flowed 0.85 MMcfg/d through a 56/64-inch choke. In addition small amounts of gas were produced from an openhole test in the Ordovician.
