IHS Releases Updated Map of World’s Sedimentary Basins

GENEVA (Oct. 22, 2007) - IHS Inc. (NYSE: IHS), a global provider of critical technical information, decision-support tools and strategic services, announced today the company has released a new version of its map of the world's sedimentary basins, which has been created electronically at a scale of 1:20,000,000.

This third edition includes numerous updates such as:

  • A comprehensive revision of basin outlines with a particular enhancement of the basin limits in the Western U.S. Basin names are exported directly from IHS International Exploration & Production (E&P) database.
  • Detailed cultural layers taken from IHS international cartographic databases.
  • Precise topographic/bathymetric background provided by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
  • Extensive list of basin names on the map for easier reference.
  • Outlines and labels of major oceanic-tectonic features such as transform faults, mid-oceanic ridges and subduction zones.

"Since we first issued the map in 1986, exploration and production customers and university educators around the world have relied on the map as a valuable reference and teaching tool. A second edition was published in 2000 and many customers have recently requested an update," said Didier Arbouille, Basin data manager of the International Energy segment of IHS. "We are pleased to offer this revised map, which has been printed using high-resolution technology and includes significant improvements in both data precision and reference points."

The map is available for either a printed copy or a digital version (PDF). The printed map measures 6.5 feet by 4.8 feet, or 2 meters by 1.47 meters. To purchase the map, select the IHS Worldwide Map Ordering Service online at http://energy.ihs.com/ or call 888-645-3282 or
