IHS Introduces Industry’s First Raster Log Subscription Service Offering Unlimited, “Anytime” Access

Covers Texas RRC 1-4 and South Louisiana

HOUSTON (September 20, 2006) – IHS Inc., a global provider of integrated oil and gas information, software and consulting services, announced today it is now delivering depth-registered, fully indexed raster logs for Texas Railroad Districts 1-4 and South Louisiana in a unique new subscription package.  The new Raster Logs Unlimited subscription service provides unlimited rights to PC-ready logs, giving geologists and log analysts working these core areas cost-effective, on-demand access to a region-wide dataset.

Raster logs — scanned versions of hard-copy logs — are stored electronically, making them useable in interpretation software, such as PETRA® from IHS.  The depth-registered format combines digital depth information with standard raster images, saving time-consuming steps normally needed to make log data easily useable.  In addition, the logs have been indexed against the comprehensive IHS well data file, which reduces research time for users. And IHS analysts also have checked well names, log-run dates, depths, elevation and other key data points to resolve discrepancies, offering further time savings and greater accuracy.

With the acquisition of the Nixon Digital Logs collection earlier this year, IHS LogNet—the online log databank hosting Raster Logs Unlimited—now offers access to more than 190,000 logs in Texas Railroad Districts 1-4 alone, which includes more than 60,000 unique well logs not found in any other log database.  The onshore South Louisiana log count exceeds 67,900 images.

“Being able to offer on-demand access to these logs is just one more example of IHS moving forward with data and technology investments so we can deliver the most comprehensive data in the most accessible and timely manner possible,” said Mark Rose, senior vice president of U.S. sales and operations for the energy operating segment of IHS.

NOTE: Globally, IHS now offers more than 3.2 million well logs, while its nationwide (U.S.) coverage includes more than 1.3 million well logs, nearly all of which are fully indexed and depth-registered, This year alone, images added or enhanced cover more than 844,000 logs, significantly enhancing coverage across the U.S.
