IHS Energy to Sponsor APPEX 2003 Perspectives Forum

Experts to Address Key Trends, Business Issues, Strategic Challenges and Future Directions in Deepwater GOM and North American Gas

Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003 George R. Brown Convention Center

HOUSTON (Wednesday, July 16, 2003) - IHS Energy will sponsor the AAPG Prospect and Property Expo (APPEX) Forum, “Perspectives on the Upstream Business of Oil and Gas,” on Tuesday, Sept. 9, 2003, at the George R. Brown Convention Center (Ballroom B) in Houston. The forum will launch APPEX events and help frame business issues that are germane to the APPEX Expo, which is scheduled for Sept. 10, 2003, through Sept. 11, 2003.

The day-long forum will address key trends, business issues, strategic challenges and future directions in two critical E&P arenas — international E&P perspectives with focus on deepwater developments, and North American natural gas perspectives — in an innovative, moderated format.

The program features four morning sessions on international issues relating to the global upstream business and regional perspectives covering Africa, Asia and Latin America. A luncheon will follow, and then two afternoon sessions, beginning with the Gulf of Mexico, will address North American (Mexico, U.S. and Canada) natural gas issues. Each session features IHS Energy experts and executives from E&P companies, who will present their insights on these key issues. The forum is targeted to explorationists and executives interested in the future of the business.

In addition to experts from IHS Energy, the APPEX Forum agenda will include speakers from Occidental Petroleum, El Paso Energy, Pemex, Devon Energy, TGS-NOPEC, and also Steve Sonnenberg, AAPG President (2003-2004), also of EnCana.

The advance registration fee for the AAPG Perspectives Forum is $150 for members of AAPG/SIPES/HGS/PLS (on-site registration is $200). Non-member registration is $200, or $250 on-site. Seating is limited. To register for the Forum, please visitwww.aapg.org/meetings/appex/registration, or fax 918-560-2684. Proprietary data can easily be incorporated with the new GeoFluids PAS loader, enabling comparative analysis of proprietary geofluids data with IHS Energy’s extensive, public, GeoFluids database. In addition, the GeoFluids atlases provide explorationists with a regional perspective on fluid-chemistry distributions, fluid migration and basin dynamics.

IHS Energy (Canada) will offer the GeoFluids database online to hub customers in June 2003. The GeoFluids software and data will be linked to AccuMap, IHS Energy’s extensive oil and gas exploration and evaluation mapping software, by fall 2003.

“There is a strong synergy between GeoFluids and AccuMap,” said Ganesh Murdeshwar, director, Business Operations and Strategy, IHS Energy (Canada). “Linking these products will bring fluid-analysis data to our customers’ daily workflows, further supporting their analysis and decision-making confidence with quick access to essential information.”

"The integration of GeoFluids with AccuMap," said Kaush Rakhit, president, Rakhit Petroleum Consulting Ltd., "is our final step in the 12-year evolution of GeoFluids. I have always been a strong believer in the value of using gas-, oil- and water-chemistry data for strategic decision making by explorationists, petrophysicists and engineers,” he said. “This marriage will allow the thousands of AccuMap users to access GeoFluids data even more easily."
